Collaborations

Jose Luis Hernandez Septien is the owner and founder of Elision Music Studio LLC since 2020.

A studio dedicated with passion to the composition of music and guide the musical education of new generations of pianists.

Some of his most notable contributions in the field of film music involve successful collaborations with student film makers at MAGIC studios guided

by industry professionals working for Nickelodeon, Univision and Netflix in Miami.

The short film Foxy's Style (2019) was awarded 1st prize for the music in the Robert Avalon International Composition Competition for Composers in 2020.

Other projects such as Endless Cycle (2018) and Levitate (2017) were well received by the public and the media.

His latest composition, Azulin, was commissioned by the South Beach Chamber Ensemble and performed in Mexico City, Wisconsin and Miami in 2023.

Education

Earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida-New World School of the Arts, studying composition with Susan Epstein Garcia in 2019.

Hernandez is currently working on his Master’s degree at Berklee College of Music, Boston.

Some of his most influential mentors have been Olga Lopez, Clara Marcano, Alejandro Mendes, Gilberto Simoza, Jim Gasior, and Susan Epstein Garcia.

Prizes

As a composer and pianist, Hernandez has received numerous recognitions for his works such as:

1st prize at the Robert Avalon International Composition Competition for Composers-Emerging Artist division for Film Scoring (Houston, 2020)
Two-times winner of the 1st prize at the Jane Pyle Composition Competition at Miami Dade College (Miami, 2015 and 2016)
3rd prize at the Solo Concerto Competition performing Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin at Miami Dade College (Miami, 2015)
3rd prize-Level 5 at the Silvia Eisenstein National Piano Competition at EEMMAL (Caracas, 2011)
